The Hilo Bee project is a public-private partnership with the USDA, Project Apis m., and commercial beekeepers. Combining breeding tools and expertise in the beekeeping industry, these partners have been working to develop a honey bee that is naturally resistant to Varroa mites with traits to be successful in commercial beekeeping. The project is based at Big Island Queens/Olivarez Honey Bees in Captain Cook, Hawaii. |
